So as you already may or may not know from a few posts back, I was prepping for my yarn twists back in June/July but things got put on hold due to me packing and moving into a new home… So therefore I actually didn’t get to complete my style until after the 4th of July Holiday #SadFace 😦 ….. and I have not had internet or access to post about it until now so here is your update…
The Yarn I used, I made sure my hair was well moisturized with leave in conditioner before applying the twists.
Here is my half finished look at a Zumba glow party class and before the 4th of July.
***Here is my completed style➡➡
I was going to go for the whole yarn loc/wraps look but that just took way to much time that i did NOT have so i just stuck with the yarn twists and i LOVED IT!!! Instead of doing an ombre of brown and cream, I just used the auburn/brown yarn mostly with a few pops here and there of the cream because i was just to scared of the loud color lol (maybe next time).
Here are a few more photos while i was wearing this style–>
I am currently rocking rocking a curly wig but only when on the go since most of the time I’ve been home due to being sickly, My hair has been worn freely. I think i may do some more yarn twists one more time this year but longer and new colors, especially since the weather is starting to cool-down. I am reaching my 5 year anniversary so i do have some plans for my hair moving forward after many ups and downs during my journey i do feel like im embarking into a new journey with my hair, body and even spiritually as well… so stay tuned because i will keep you posted!
***COMMENT below if you liked this post, any questions, share you story or photos if you’ve had yarn twists/locs I’d love to hear about it!
Finally getting to cutting✂✂ my yarn for my hair💁, going to get it started tonight since my schedule is pretty clear this week… I’m going for the yarn wraps/locs for my first time so wish me luck because that’s double the work of the regular yarn twists which is my favorite 😉😱 lol
*This length cut in half will be about 18-20 inches, I was gonna go shorter but maybe for my next set!
Items used for this process:
-2 foldable chairs
-yellow measuring tape
I’m super excited to try something new and put my hair in a protective style for awhile especially during the summer and being so active, these are going to be perfect!
Hey luvs ❤ ❤ !!! Hope you guys all enjoyed your holidays no matter if you got a break to spend with your loved ones or not and i hope you enjoyed all the goodies that holidays have to offer. My holidays were great especially spending it with my husband and kids while they were all on break for almost 3 weeks!!!!… We were going to go out but we decided to spend the whole break indoors together, but i still decided to get dolled up for both Christmas and the New Year holiday. It was so hard for me to decide on what to do with my hair because of my new big chop and color as i talked more about in a previous post here –> “Big Chop #2“. Its like going natural all over again in so many ways because now i have color added so my hair doesnt react the same with certain products i used to use to achieve styles such as twist and bantu knot outs so im experimenting again and its fun but sometimes can get irritating if short on time and the style turns out to be a fail.
I decided that i haven’t done a rod set in a long time and i never did one on my shorter hair before when i big chopped for the first time back in 2011 so i figured why not see how it would turn out now. I was so worried about how this was going to turn out mostly because i didn’t have much products to work with at the moment of time, but with confidence i proceeded and it came out wayy better than i could of imagined.
I didn’t get a picture of me with the rollers in my head but here are the rollers, tools and the products that i used to achieve this style–>
I kept my rods in for 1 whole day before i took it down because i wanted it to be completely dry so that it wouldn’t interrupt the curls to much or create to much frizz. Here is two pics below of my hair after removing the rods and before i fluffed it out. —>
As you can see it turned out great and super curly, i almost didnt want to take it down! After wearing it just like this for about 2 hours i decided i would style it and use an afro pick to fluff the roots and add some volume…..
I loved it so much that i decided to do it again for new years eve, but i think i need to get some rods that are a little bigger because it did take me forever with those tiny rods lol. I would love to try some flexi rods and see how that turn out!
DO YOU LOVE ROD SETS? WHAT WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH ROD SETS? WHAT PRODUCTS YOU USE? I’D LOVE TO HEAR ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE ON THIS TOPIC SO PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COMMENT BELOW!
Well spring/summer is here and most of us know what that weather can do to our hair, going from really hot and dry weather to humid and moist can only cause our hair to go from pretty to a hot tangled mess if not very careful. I honestly think that for those who are busy and on the go most of the time and can hardly find the time to do their hair should wear a protective style in the warmer weather especially because its already hot and not only do you wanna look good, protect your hair and get work done but you also want to enjoy the beautiful sunny days without taking up most of your night prepping or most of your day styling! ….Right ladies? Of course do not leave a protective style in no longer than 2-3 months and be sure to let your hair breath for a week in between styles, do a deep conditioning treatment and really love your hair during the “in between times”.
Ok so speaking of protective styling in the spring/summer, ive been trying new styles on my daughters hair but she mostly has been wearing pin & tuck or braided styles. That is until i decided to try flatwists on her hair and i have never done it before so i was very worried on how this was going to look lol but it turned out pretty well.
HERE ARE SOME PICTURES—>
So as you can see they were pretty nice and neat too, I completed this style on freshly washed and heatless stretched hair. Only products that i applied to her hair was coconut oil after washing and applying leave in conditioner the night before and the next day when i styled her hair i applied coconut oil again;which promoted a lot of natural shine to her hair.
After flat twisting the front, my baby boy started becoming really fussy so i had to come up with something quick and simply to pin this girls head up and protect those ends at the same time because this weather just crazy and going from hot, cold to rain but hey that spring for you…. Above you will see that her hair is in two large flat twists with the ends tucked away, making sure no pins are to tight or easy to fall out either.
This style lasted me about 1 week mon-sun then since she stays playing on the floor and likes to play crazy at school too, i had to take down and refresh weekly so she been rocking this style since mid may up until now but i already took it out and deep conditioned etc for the past couple weeks so it time for the next protective style and i think it will be some braids with beads since she haven’t been rocking that style for a long time and i will be posting pictures of that style too.
My Attempt at doing Crochet Twist’s on my daughters hair using the “SuperNatural Twist” method by Janette!
This is a late post on a hair style that I attempted few months back for the holidays. I wasn’t able to post due to me having computer issues, but I did take pics so that I can share this with you all. I always loved all the cool crochet styles and wanted to try them on myself at one point as well but since the holidays was coming and my daughter needed another protective style; I decided to go ahead and do a crochet style on her head. The questions was “so what style do I want to go with?” After researching online and finding so many cute crochet style ideas I ound it hard to make up my mind…. until I ran into this amazing channel by this woman who was not only passionate about what she does as a stylist but she had her own technique using the crochet method only this time it was with TWISTS! She call them “Supernatural Twist by Janette”. Yes I was amazed, it was quicker but mostly it was safer on the hair not puling on it or causing to much irritation to the scalp or hair. This style can also look even more natural if you add singles to the front and/or to the back hairline and the rest crochet style but either way I think its just a great style! Below ill show you some pictures of my daughter Aaliyah’s hair and some insight on the style process, sorry I wasn’t able to make a video.
Here are all of the products and tools that I used for this hairstyle. The hair was Afro Soul Bulk by Femi Collection color #2. I used the Lock & Twist Gel by Organic Root Stimulator on the synthetic hair only as I applied to the hair because I feel that it made the twisting process smoother and it offered great hold without the flaking or sticky feel of most gels. The great thing about this hair and the process used is that there was no need to dip hair in water for the curly ends! Unlike kinky twists hair, afro bulk offers a more natural bounce back like no other as long as you twists all the way to the ends this will give you that natural look!
After a fresh wash, deep condition and a few hours of banding to stretch it a bit I began the braid down process using nothing but Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner on her hair and 100% Pure African Shea Butter on her scalp. I did not want a lot of product build up on her hair from the start so I kept it light as possible. The lady did suggest that it was best to braid her hair down with black yarn especially if the hair is a softer texture because this will give it more hold and last longer while protecting the hair even more but I decided to give it a try without the yarn this time since I didn’t really have that technique down yet. As you can see it all worked out well and look at the shine! I always braids a little lighter on the ends leaving a little bit of hair out so she wont loose any hair.
This is the end result! It took m about a week to get it done and that’s only because I had to stop so many time to attend to my infant, other mommy duties around the house etc. but i’m sure if it wasn’t for that I would of got done about 3 days tops. This style was so simple, I did not have to cut no hair in half at all and it only took 4 pks of hair. Since I didn’t get a chance to record the process it is hard to explain the process but I will post a video at the end that inspired me to do this style.
1. Taking each strand of hair without cutting It, folded it in half then put it on the crochet tool.
2. I took the crochet tool and put it under the braid, pulling only half of the hair to the other side making sure to keep the two parts separate.
3. As if I was twisting her own natural hair, I started twisting the hair making sure that I twisted all the way down to the ends. (this will give it a even more natural look)
4. Continuing this all over her head, I ended up putting more twists in the front than I had to for the rest of the head.
The 3 photos above are photos of my daughter after wearing this style for 1 month, my plan was to take it out at 2 months but I only left it in 1 more week and took it out for a good wash etc. plus so that I can be safe, we all know how harsh protective styles can be to our natural hair over long periods of time. As you can see hey style is still really nice and fresh, I can honestly say that this was one of those styles that looked better the longer it was in! This style was most definitely a 5 star***** winner for me and not only will I be doing this style again but I recommend it to be done on others as well especially children.
THIS IS HOW SHE WORE HER HAIR UP AT NIGHT.
The name of the channel for the lady who inspired me to try this style is MissSuperNaturalMe and the link to her channel is https://www.youtube.com/user/MissSupernaturalMe and I just love her personality and passion for what she does. she gives great tips on crochet styles and much more so check her out! Below im going to post a few videos related to the Super Natural Twists By Janette!
Well luvs, I hope that you enjoyed this post as much as I did sharing it with you all!!.. Remember feel free to comment below with any questions, advice, or any feedback that you would like to share. *Take Care*
Hey loves!… Well in my last post about my hair update i talked to you guys about how my hair has changed since my pregnancy and how i neglected my hair during and after, plus i said im going to be on a hair repair mission and start with a fall trim and every 8-10 weeks after that. Well, finally did my trim you guys!! I don’t have before and after pics of that because phone was dead at the time and i was in a rush but i did get pics of the style i’m about to tell you about. So first about the trim, well i lightly blowed out my hair using the tension method with a little use of the comb attachment but on medium heat and mixture of cool air setting as well. After i was done i noticed that my ends really needed a trim, i mean single strand knots and all so i put in small sections and went to work and just cut off what was needed. You know my hair wasn’t as bad as i thought it was going to be but it did need that little trim or i really should say dusting because i didn’t take off much. When i was done i had no clue what i was going to do with my hair so at first i just put it in two large flat twists as a protective style and just wore it like that for the week, but it was time for wash day plus my hair needed the TLC because we had some hot days and i was sweaty and my scalp just needed a refresher! After washing my hair i then decided to do a wash-n-go since i was up super early and my fiance had the baby, although i had to go out and it wasn’t really hot out and it was rainy i still did it and it came out great. See (it was still drying in this pic)——->
Now to be honest i haven’t done a wash-n-go since around the time i big chopped.. i think i was only 3 months natural then so i was little worried and wasn’t sure i would like the shrinkage much especially since i just trimmed but it came out nice and took FOREVER to dry lol!
Here is the steps i took to achieve the look:
step 1. I took my freshly washed hair and put it in sections with duck clips, about 8 sections (the smaller the better).
step 2. Then i took a section at a time staring from back to front and applied the product in such order – Leave in conditioner, cream moisturizer, then gel last and i racked it through with finger following with my Denman brush gliding it from the root to tip in a slow motion to the curls can just form on the own and remain detangled. then i would move to the next section letting it hand and dry.
step 3. Once i got to the front of my head, i already had my hair parted the way i want it so i just did the same thing in step 2 but when i was done i put a clip on each side to keep the part separated and to mold the style a bit.
step 4. I just let it air dry for a few hrs then i removed the clips in the font and went on with the day letting my hair continue to air dry.
NIGHT TIME ROUTINE- My hair was still a little damp but nothing to much to effect the style. I basically just put my hair in tiny pine apples while still keeping my part and style in place, then i went ahead and put my satin bonnet on and my silk scarf over it giving it double protection then off to bed i go.
I currently don’t have a daily refresher yet since this was only the day after, my hair is till tied up and will be for the day since i am in the house for the day, have to give do a bath and all that good stuff, but i will try to wear this style for up to 3-4 days and i will get back to you guys letting you know what i did to refresh my style and how it held up!
Also, here is the exact products i used—>
In the past i have tried just the gel alone and it was a hot mess lol, but i now know there is a method to this so that your hair can keep moisture and curls can be even more defined, now it will still harden because that’s what gel do and this gel is a high 10 with hold so it did get a little hard but i think with me adding the product before the gel helped because it still remained mostly soft to the touch, if you don’t like the hardness from gels then just wait until the hair is fully dry then go ahead and scrunch with your hand to reduce the gel casting (hardening). Over all im in love with the results and i do plan to do more wash-n-go’s in my future, i may even try other gels in the future but for now this is the go to!

Fall is here and it is time to do protective styles and lots and lots of deep conditioning! On that note, i been practicing many different styles most on my daughter Aaliyah’s hair she is 10 yrs old especially flat twists and guest what?…. i finally SUCCEEDED ! I tried forever to do this and i got it now (on somebody else hair that is), i still have to try again on my hair. take a look below at some pics of my daughter hair and tell me what you think!
STARTED OFF SMALL FLAT TWISTS IN THE FRONT ON , THEY WE’RE PERFCTO! I DID THIS ON FRESHLY WASHED, BLOWN OUT HAIR (using tension method). I MOISTURIZED WITH MY SHEA BUTTER MIX (coconut oil, castor oil, and shea butter) and Shea Moisture’s Coconut and Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie. LOOK AT THAT SHINE!
THE REAL CHALLENGE WAS DOING THEM LARGER, BECAUSE I ALWAYS HAD A HARD TIME DOING LARGE BRAIDS AND TWIST BUT I WAS SURPRISED THEY CAME OUT JUST RIGHT!
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LEAVE ANY COMMENTS BELOW, TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!
Here is my daughter Aaliyah with her hair fully stretched using the African threading method. It was a 3 day process but so work it!
— I WASHED HER HAIR WITH “Aunt Jackie’s Moisturizing & Softening Shampoo” . GOING BACK IN TO CO WASH WITH “tresemme naturals conditioner”. THEN I DETANGLED WHILE I DID A HOT OIL TREATMENT WITH COCONUT OIL AND HONEY.
— THEN I MOISTURIZED USING MY LOC METHOD ON DAMP HAIR, USING LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER,COCONUT OIL, CREAM MOISTURIZER “shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie”, AND A PINCH OF MY SHEA BUTTER MIX.
— AFTER WASHING,DETANGLING AND CONDITIONING I PUT EACH SECTION I WAS GOING TO THREAD INTO CLIPS. MAKING SURE HAIR STAYS DAMP I SPRITZ WITH SPRAY BOTTLE AND DETANGLED AS NEEDED THEN I TOOK SOME WEAVE THREAD ( YES THE THREAD USED TO DO QUICK WEAVES ETC. BECAUSE ITS THICKER AND HOLDS BETTER) PUT A KNOT ON THE END AND STARTED TO WRAP THE SECTION STARTING AT THE TOP WRAPPING IT UNTIL THE THREAD IT TIGHT UP TOP BEFORE MOVING DOWN, AS I WAS WRAPPING THE SECTION OF HAIR I MADE SURE THE GAB WAS NOT TO FAR APART BECAUSE THE CLOSER THE STRAIGHTER IT WILL BE (that was a challenge lol).
I LET HER WEAR THE STYLE FOR THE DAY SINCE WE HAD ALOT TO DO, THEN THAT EVENING I REMOVED ALL THREAD AND TOOK WIDETOOTH COMB TO CHECK PROCESS THEN PUT INTO SECTIONS, I REPEATED THE PROCESS BY ADDING COCONUT OIL ONLY TO THE DRY HAIR, AND THEN RE THREADED THE HAIR IN SECTIONS THE SAME AS BEFORE ,
KEPT IT IN OVERNIGHT THEN REMOVED IN THE MORNING AND HERE IS THE RESULTS BELOW. ….
PUFFED IT UP WITH MY HANDS GIVING IT SOME VOLUME, THAT SHINE AND SOFTNESS WAS AMAZING AND SHE COULD STAY OUT HER HAIR!!
SO MY OVERALL EXPERIENCE WAS GREAT AND I GIVE IT A 5 STAR RATING, ITS TIME CONSUMING ESPECIALLY WITH A 3 MONTH OLD BABY BUT IT WAS WORTH IT, ILL BE DOING IT AGAIN FOR SURE (when i have the time of coarse). JUST LOVING HOW VERSATILE NATURAL HAIR CAN BE, WHO SAY YOU NEED HEAT ALL THE TIME?? PLEASE LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS BELOW ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK AND ALSO SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE IF YOU HAVE TRIED THIS BEFORE …..
